Distance Education

Distance Education Units

The responsibilities of the Centre include the organisation and distribution of the various forms of teaching materials (including CD Rom) to students on a weekly basis, the electronic registration, receipt, and return of all distance education assignments, and the production of the schedule of on-campus sessions as well as field trips for distance education units.  Another special interest of the Centre is also the delivery of independent learning units as an improved method of teaching, in which distance-teaching techniques can be combined with regular face-to-face contact to provide a more flexible 'Multi Modal 'attendance pattern.

Evening Units

In some evening units, attendance requirements are reduced by the substitution of CD for scheduled lectures. Evening students in those units may borrow the CD's from the Centre or listen to them in the Library in lieu of attendance at lectures scheduled during the daytime. In addition, the Centre arranges the distribution of teaching materials and assignments for some evening units, with other services arranged on an individual basis to meet a variety of needs, especially those of disadvantaged and disabled students.

Student Support

Distance education and evening students are encouraged to contact the Centre's Manager of Distance Education Student Services to discuss problems related to study, contact with lecturers or any other difficulties which affect students with reduced access to the functions of the University. Students requiring assistance may telephone or write to Ms Pepi Weinrauch;  X5B level 1, Centre for Open Education, Macquarie University 2109; tel: (02) 9850 7470 (with voice mail service); fax: (02) 9850 7480; e-mail: coe@mq.edu.au .
