Summer Course Fees 2009
Current Macquarie students - Tuition fees for units are payable at the time of enrolment, unless you are eligible to defer your fees under the FEE-HELP loan scheme.
New Non-Macquarie applicants - Application forms will not be accepted without either payment of the full amount of the tuition fee, or a receipt for that amount from the Cashier at the Student Enquiry Service. Payment online is acceptable, but the application must be accompanied by a printed copy of the Merchant Invoice showing the reference number of the payment, date, amount paid and method of payment.
For information for making payments from overseas, please see International Bank Transfers below.
Domestic and international students will pay the same fee as per the table below:
| Faculty | 2009 Summer Course Tuition Fees |
| Business and Economics | $836 per Credit Point |
| Arts | $836 per Credit Point |
| Human Sciences | $912 per Credit Point |
| Science | $912 per Credit Point |
Please read the Schedule of Units Available to check the exact cost for the unit/s, and please make sure that you pay the up-front tuition cost and not the FEE-HELP amount (20% greater than up-front tuition fee for a unit)
You may pay by cheque, credit card or money order directly at the University Cashier) (Level 1, Lincoln Building) or at the Centre for Open Education. Cheques should be made out to Macquarie University. Official University receipts cannot be issued by the Centre. If you require an official University receipt at the time of payment, please make your payment directly to the Cashier's Office. If you pay at the Centre you will still be able to obtain an official receipt but you will have to wait several working days before the Cashier will be able to print a receipt for you. Please note that EFTPOS payments have a limit of $1000.
If paying by cash you will need to take your application to the Cashier in the Student Enquiry Service, Level 1, Lincoln Building, and then submit the application form together with the Cashier's receipt to the Centre for Open Education. Do not leave application forms with the Cashier.
FEE-HELP Loan Scheme
Fee-Help will be available for eligible students to assist in covering the cost of Summer Course tuition fees. The procedure for seeking Fee-Help in the Summer Program is set out in the Steps of Enrolment for Macquarie Domestic Students. General information on this loan scheme can be at FEE-HELP.
PLEASE NOTE: FEE-HELP for your summer tuition fees will have a 20% loan fee added to the liability for the unit which is reported to the Australian Tax Office (ATO). This means that a unit which has tuition fees of $2508 will be reported to the ATO as a liability of $3010. This amount will show on your CAN which you will receive in January, after the census date.

REFUNDS
In some circumstances tuition fees may be refundable;
- Total refund will be made if:
- a student withdraws on eStudent by 2 January 2009
- a student notifies the Centre in writing (email or fax) of withdrawal by 2 January 2009
- a unit is cancelled, or
- if a student can demonstrate that exceptional circumstances have prevented participation in a unit. Such circumstances could include:
- serious illness or disability
- death or serious illness of a close family member (parent, sibling, spouse or child)
- political, civil or natural event which prevents attendance at, or completion of, the course.
NO REFUND if a student withdraws after 2 January 2009, unless an appeal to the Centre for Open Education based on exceptional circumstances, as described above, is successful.
Students can withdraw without failure (W status) provided that they notify the Centre in writing by Friday 9 January 2009. After this date students will incur both academic and financial penalty if they withdraw (unless exceptional circumstances, described above, apply and a refund is recommended by the Head of the Division offering the unit/s).
If you intend to travel outside Australia between the end of your exams and the commencement of the Summer Course period, you are strongly advised to ensure your return flight is booked before the commencement of your summer course unit. Please read the refund policy above carefully. Inability to obtain a flight to return to Sydney in time to commence your summer unit because you have not pre-booked your flights, does not constitute 'exceptional circumstances' as described above, and you will be subject to the normal refund policy.
Don't forget, though, that you can withdraw on eStudent before 2 January from outside Australia and still receive a full refund
If you are entitled to a refund of your fees you will need to complete a Request for Refund of Student Fees form, available online at www.ofs.mq.edu.au/student_finances/refund.htm or from the Centre for Open Education or from the Cashier's Office, and submit it to the Cashier, Level 1, Lincoln Building.
You can choose either to have the fees recredited to your student fees account, as credit against next semester's fees, or you can ask for a refund in the form of a cheque or a direct deposit to your nominated bank account (this is usually quite a lot quicker than a cheque).
